Don’t Let Your Heart Be Troubled

Dear Partners and Friends,

The condition of our heart is one of our greatest priorities. If the heart is filled with cares or overburdened with stress we cannot believe effectively. Receiving from God requires that our heart is guarded against the things that can choke the Word.

Jesus gave us specific instruction that must be taken seriously.

Do not let your hearts be troubled (distressed, agitated). You believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely on God; believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely also on Me. (John 14:1 AMPC)

The power to obey this commandment is contained in the command. Jesus told us not to allow, permit, or let our hearts be agitated. We can take that command into our heart and release from our mouth the faith to walk in it! “I will not allow my heart to be troubled! I believe!”

He reveals the correct spiritual flow in His next sentence. “Believe, trust and rely in Me! Faith is the correct flow of the heart. If we have our heart anchored in trusting the Lord, the temptation to fear or worry is easily resisted.

#1 Decide to trust the Lord no matter what may come.

By [the help of] God I will praise His word; on God I lean, rely, and confidently put my trust; I will not fear. What can man, who is flesh, do to me? (Psalm 56:4 AMPC)

The putting or placing of our trust is the foundation to make the declaration, “I will not fear.” When we choose in advance to have our trust securely fastened in the Lord, we are positioned for victory regardless of what may happen in days to come.

This is a choice, an act of the will. We choose to trust. We choose to believe God and His Word.

In God have I put my trust and confident reliance; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? Psalm 56:11

#2 Declare your trust in Him.

I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust! (Psalm 91:2 AMPC)

Your situation needs to hear you declare it. Your emotions need to hear you say it. The adversary needs to hear you say it. Most importantly, the declaration is the legal voice authorization in the arena of the spirit. When you say it, you are activating all of the protection that is yours as a child of God.

This is the reason the Lord has verbally declared His promises and even given us the written record of what was declared. He wants us to believe and speak in line with His established will for our lives.

Living free from all fear, worry, anxiety, and care is His perfect will!

…for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless, nor forsake, nor let [you] down, (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]

So we take comfort and are encouraged and confidently and boldly say, The Lord is my Helper; I will not be seized with alarm [I will not fear or dread or be terrified]. What can man do to me? (Hebrews 13:5-6 AMPC)

#3 Diligently maintain your flow of faith!

The New Testament is full of instructions that direct us to “hold fast our profession of faith, continue in the Word, and to contend earnestly for the faith…” Why is this exhortation threaded throughout God’s Word?

It is because we live in a world that is operating under the curse with fear as a normal flow of life. This world is built on fear-based principles. Worry and anxiety are acceptable as a part of life in this society. Also, we have an adversary who is constant in his attack of pressure and difficulty.

But Jesus gave us the answer in advance!

Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.] (John 14:27 AMPC)

The peace that Jesus has provided is a supernatural flow that elevates us above the worldly, fear-based flow. His peace will protect our heart and our mind against the corruption that worry will cause.

And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours]. (Philippians 4:7 AMP)

Peace is supplied by the Lord Himself to act as a supernatural guard to protect the heart. Without His peace in place, the heart will be vulnerable to attack and the mind will be wide open to receive whatever report the problem may bring.

When the peace of God is in operation, our heart can maintain the Word production that Jesus described in the Parable of the Sower (Mark 4). We can bring forth the harvest of the Word with thirty, sixty, and an hundred-fold capacity in our lives!

As your partner, I am releasing my faith for Spirit of God to strengthen you with supernatural might. I believe you will approve the things that are excellent and experience the fullness of the blessing!

Sensitive to the Holy Spirit

Dear Partners and Friends,

One of my greatest desires this year is to increase my sensitivity to the leading of the Holy Spirit. It is a desire that I include in my prayers for all of my partners and those members connected to the local churches where I pastor.

Think about it! We could avoid the delays or do-overs of our mistakes if we could just follow the leading of the One who knows specifically the steps we need to take. He wants to guide us! He wants to speak to us! He will show us things!

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14:26

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. John 16:13

Notice that these actions are directional, instructional actions. The Holy Spirit wants to provide us with the spiritual guidance we need on a daily basis. He can help us in our relationships. He can help us walk in optimum health. He will even guide us in our finances. What would your finances look like if God managed your money? Well, the Holy Spirit can help you govern your finances with the wisdom of God!

Our Lord and Saviour followed the leading of the Holy Spirit during His earthly ministry.

And Jesus, in the control of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was continually being led by the Spirit in the uninhabited region Luke 4;1 (Wuest)

To follow the leading of the Holy Spirit is to follow the pattern of Jesus Christ. If our Master submitted to the leadership and guidance of the Spirit of God, how much more should we rely, depend, and trust in the Holy Spirit to show us the way to live victoriously. Jesus was “continually being led by the Spirit…” This is our standard.

But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God). Galatians 5;16 (AMP)

The Holy Spirit is going to lead us into good things. He will lead us away from the cravings of the flesh that lead to destruction. He will lead you to forgive instead of holding a grudge. He will lead us to be merciful instead of critical. He will lead us into prayer, worship, and a daily time in the Word. The Holy Spirit will lead us to right decisions and right responses. These leadings will protect and prosper us! These leadings will position us for promotion. He will always guide us into profit.

We must learn how to receive this vital, spiritual information. It is not the type of controlling force that sin, fear, or addiction uses. So how does He lead us? The Word of God describes His leading as bearing witness with our spirit. Look at these other versions to form an idea of how He communicates this instruction.

The Spirit himself is constantly bearing joint- testimony with our [human] spirit that we are God’s children. Romans 8:16 (Wuest)

For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. Romans 8:16 NLT

For his Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts and tells us that we really are God’s children. Romans 8:16 (TLB)

Imagine that a reporter is interviewing a person who witnessed an event. Picture in your mind that another person steps up and bears witness to the testimony. The testimony or account of the first person is strengthened or validated. This is an example of how the Holy Spirit can bear witness with your spirit. As you seek your heart to know the direction to take in a certain area, the Holy Spirit can bear witness with your spirit that you should or should not move in that direction.

How do we develop in this sensitivity to His leading? First of all, begin to declare this: “I immediately respond in faith to the guidance of the Holy Spirit within me.” The Words of Jesus confirm that as His sheep we know His voice and follow His voice. Another voice we will not follow. We want to speak in line with this truth.

Next, acknowledge Him. When you are in need of His guidance, ask Him, “What should I do?” Then, listen or wait for His response. Pray in the Spirit or worship softly while clearing your mind of any clutter.

Finally, as He begins to instruct you, respond to Him. Act on His leading. Just like any other kingdom principle, faith is involved in following the direction of the Holy Spirit. Thankfully, I have discovered that the Holy Spirit will teach you to follow Him in the smaller, more insignificant things first. Then, when you are in a serious situation, you can be confident in the way He leads and step out in confident faith. Start now! Don’t wait until you are in that situation before you develop the sensitivity to His leading.

Partner, I am going to continue praying that you increase in your ability to hear and follow the direction of the Spirit of God!

Erase the Question Mark and Put an Exclamation Point!

Dear Partners and Friends,

There are no impossible situations where the Lord is concerned. God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all we ask or think. With God nothing is impossible. All things are possible to the one who believes. Faith connects us to the ability of God.

But, faith begins where the will of God is known. The question mark stops the flow of faith from connecting to God’s ability. Just like the man full of leprosy described in Luke 5:12, you may know The Lord is able to heal you, save your child, or help you financially. Do you believe it is His will? This man came to Jesus and fell on his face before Him. His cry was, “Lord, if you want to, you can make me clean.” At that moment, Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man. There was no power flow. There was no connection to the healing power in Jesus. But, when Jesus said, “I will…” the healing power flowed. Immediately, the leprosy left him.

I love the Wuest translation of Jesus’ reply, “My heart desires it. Be cleansed at once!” I can hear the Master saying those words. I can hear the desire and heart’s cry of the Father to help His children physically, financially, and in every part of their lives. Our Heavenly Father wants to remove the question mark and replace it with His exclamation point. He wants you to know that His desire is to help you.

As a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ, to know the things that are a mystery to the natural mind is something promised to us. Look at Luke 8:10.

He said to them, To you it has been given to [come progressively to] know (to recognize and understand more strongly and clearly) the mysteries and secrets of the kingdom of God, Luke 8:10a AMP

Receive this! Take it! It is yours by inheritance. The Lord says it has been given to us. That means we have it now. Declare and give voice authorization saying, “I have the ability to know the secrets of how my Father’s kingdom operates. I recognize and understand more strongly and clearly the ways of the kingdom.”

Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;

Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: Ephesians 1:8-9

Wisdom and understanding are abounding toward us. Jesus is made unto us wisdom (I Corinthians 1:30). This wisdom makes us know the will. Knowing the will of God connects us to the flow of His power. This is why the Holy-Spirit-inspired-prayer in Ephesians 1:18 says, “that you may know what is the hope of His calling, that you may know the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, that you may know what is the exceeding greatness of His power towards us…”

He wants you to know these things so that you can access them. God’s will should never be followed by a question mark in our minds. His will should always have an exclamation point!

For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; Colossians 1:9

How would you act if you were filled with the knowledge of God’s will? I can tell you how my actions have changed since I have started walking in the knowledge of His will. I have confidence. I pray with the answer in my mouth. I don’t let my emotions guide my thoughts.

I am filled with the knowledge of God’s will so I know that all things are working together for my good. I know that no weapon formed against me is able to prosper. I know that I always have all sufficiency in all things. I abound to every good work. I am like a tree planted by the rivers of living water. I bring forth fruit in my season. My leaf does not wither. Everything I put my hand to prospers. Do you get the picture? Partner, I am praying for you to be filled with the knowledge of the Father’s will for your life in all wisdom and spiritual understanding!

Guard your heart! Investigate every thought that passes through your mental processes and make those thoughts pass through the filter of God’s Word. There is an attack against the believer designed to change your belief system. The enemy is after the productivity of the Word in your life.

Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life. Proverbs 4:23 AMP

Jesus instructs us through the parable of the sower about the various methods of the adversary to steal, kill and destroy the Word. We see the Word of God that is not understood is the seed sown by the wayside in Matthew 13:19. We recognize that offense causes your heart to be stony ground where the Word cannot gain a strong root system. When pressures come against your life, the Word cannot continue because offense brings an end to its growth. Finally, the heart full of worry or concern is like a garden full of thorns. The heart full of cares doesn’t allow room for the Word to grow. The Word gets choked out by worry!

All of these heart conditions can attack the believer if they aren’t diligently guarding or keeping their heart. The definition of the word “keep” is

i)      to continue having or holding,

ii)    to watch over or defend,

iii)   to maintain in orderly condition.

This instruction has a focus on maintaining a certain condition. Many times, we teach this from an aspect of stopping the wrong information or influence.  But, you can protect your heart from the wrong thing while neglecting to maintain faith. In the same way that you can refrain from saying the wrong thing and neglect to make a faith declaration, you can stop the negative from entering your heart and never deposit the Word to maintain your spiritual fruit.

Let’s take a different approach. Let’s take an offensive approach to our life instead of a defensive position. From the many football games I have endured, (Oops, I should say enjoyed) while my husband cheered on his favorite team, I have learned this one thing. Most of the points are scored while the team has the offensive line on the field. At times, the defense will pick up a fumble or intercept a play and manage to score. Generally, the points are scored when the team is focused on offensive plays with the players trained in offensive moves are on the field.

Your spiritual advancement needs an offensive approach. Instead of studying things in an attempt to combat the attack you are under, begin to study the Word that will help you advance past that attack. Instead of praying in response to the things happening in your life, begin praying in line with where you want to be in the future. The Holy Spirit will guide you. He will give you the specifics and the “cues” for your prayer life. The Lord already has a specific plan for your progress. He has planned the very best for your life and made paths ready to lead you there. God’s good life is ready right now for you to live it. Look at this verse!

For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live]. Ephesians 2:10 AMP

Finding the paths of God is not hard. Walking in the progress The Father has designed is not hard. It is just different. It is different from the way of our society. It is probably different than the way you were raised or taught unless you were raised in the Word.

The key to your progress on these paths is in your attention. What has your focus? To what are you paying attention?

My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Proverbs 4:20

“Attend” means “to apply the mind to something, to focus the consciousness to produce greater clarity.” The design of our Heavenly Father is to keep our attention on His instruction. He wants us to apply our mind to His truth. The Lord wants us to focus on the truths of who we are in Christ until they are clear enough for us to walk in them.

The adversary wants your attention too. The problem wants your focus. This is what worry does. Worry drives the focus of the thoughts and emotions to the situation. How many of us have been deceived into thinking,  “If I worry about this long enough, I can fix it”? For many people, worry is a trained response. When things happen, they worry and don’t know how to “not worry.”  Remember, God’s method is not hard! It is different.

The reason worry comes easily to so many people, even believers, is that they are highly developed in worry. They have consistently given their attention to the problem and the situation. They have never exercised control over their emotions to disengage from the circumstance. They have never disciplined their thoughts to stay focused on God’s Word. When a crisis occurs, they lack spiritual stamina to defeat the onslaught against the mind, will, and emotions.

My partner, you and I are going to respond differently. We are going to be on the offensive line with our focus on God’s Word. We are ready to move forward. We are preparing our mind, will, and emotions to be under the governing power of God’s Word. The Holy Spirit can easily lead us. We are people easily persuaded by the Word!

There is much more on this topic in my newest book release, “Finding God’s Answers.” I want to offer it to you, my partner, at the pre-release price of $10.
