A Preview of Refusing the Care

Dear Partners and Friends,

Exciting things are taking place! At this writing, we are preparing for the celebration of 20 years of ministry in Faith Builders International in De Soto, Kansas. Preparations are underway for our Faith Explosion there and our annual gathering of alumni and ministers of the Faith Builders Ministerial Association.

Our Bible College, Faith Builders International Ministerial Academy(FBIMA), is graduating classes from both our De Soto, Kansas and Little Rock, Arkansas locations. Our Hispanic Bible College, Instituto Bíblico Constructores de Fe, launched our Little Rock campus and another in Quito, Ecuador.

Pastor Steele’s new book, Refusing the Care,is about to be released and what a great help this book will be to the Body of Christ. Pastor Philip really brings to light the importance of recognizing and refusing to accept the care, stress, and anxiety. I am so thrilled with the revelation and insight this book provides. I want to share an excerpt from this book with you. I know you will receive help from this!

Excerpt from Chapter 1 of Refusing the Careby Pastor Philip Steele

When talking about the ability to refuse the care, we can be very elementary or matter of fact about it by saying, “I am not going to care.” However, we can be saying this and still have a heart full of care. The bottom line is this: If we have faith, we will see it, but if we are carrying care, we will see it too.

We may say that we are not carrying any cares or worries. However, our face may be telling a whole different story. In this way, our confession is betrayed by our lack of faith in what we are confessing.

There was a time in the past when Pastor Michelle and I took a stand to pray and believe God for something. I was on our balcony praying in the Holy Spirit. The Bible says that when you pray in the Holy Spirit, you build up your most holy faith (Jude 1:20). It recharges your (spiritual) batteries. I was praying in tongues and crying out desperately to God.

I heard the Lord speak to me where He speaks to each one of us – in our spirits. God said, “Philip, your face is all scrunched up.” I was praying earnestly! I really thought I was praying in faith!

But the Lord spoke to me and said, “Your actions prove what you are really believing.” The expression on my face and the desperation in my prayer revealed that I was not in faith. I was praying in worry and under the pressure of the problem.

People may say that they do not have a care. But their actions, attitudes, and the way they present themselves will reveal whether or not they actually have cares or worries. It will be the proof as to whether or not they are refusing the care or carrying the care.

Refusing the care is not just refusing to think about something. It is not a denial of something. It is not merely keeping a positive thought. When we study what the Word of God says, we will see that refusing care is vital to our overall spiritual fitness.

And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. Luke 21:34

In Luke 21:34, Jesus is dealing with the end times and His second coming. The initial part of verse 34 says, “…take heed to yourselves…” This verse is telling us that the first thing we need to watch is our own reactions when we are confronted with the pressures of life. “TAKE HEED TO YOURSELF.”

Very often, we can quickly point out someone else who has entered into care. However, God says to “take heed to yourselves.” That is to say that we must watch ourselves to prevent our hearts from being overcharged with surfeiting, drunkenness, and the cares of this life so that the day (of Christ’s return) does not come upon us unawares. There are some important truths here of which we need to take notice.

Jesus used the words overcharged and surfeitingSurfeiting simply means “self-indulgence.” Without getting too involved in the definition of this word, it can include overeating or too much involvement in the pleasures of this world.

There is nothing wrong, for instance, in watching a college football game. Yet, there are people who will waste an entire Saturday watching college football. This can cross over into self-indulgence. The Lord is all about us having fun, but fun has its place, as well as its limits. He warns us to keep ourselves from self-indulgence.

In the same verse, Jesus points to thecares of this life. The Wuest Translation of the New Testament says, “…the anxieties pertaining to the affairs of this life…” The Amplified Bible says, “…cares pertaining to [the business of] this life…” Jesus is warning us that if our focus is on the cares or anxieties of this life, the day (pertaining to His second coming) will come on us unawares. If our focus is on the anxieties, anxiousness, cares, or the business of this life, there are things we will miss, and there are things that can come on us when we least expect it.

I was up early one morning meditating on some things when the Lord began talking to me about cares. He said to me, “The entering in of cares requires the letting go of faith.” Any time I enter into care, I have to let go of faith. That’s because faith, according to the Amplified Bible translation, is “The entire dependence of the entire personality on God.” (End of excerpt from Refusing the Careby Pastor Philip Steele)

I want to encourage you to refuse the cares of this life and remain in peace. We are entering into some of the best days of our lives and the Lord wants you to enjoy His very best! Thank you for your partnership! Together we are building people’s faith and framing their world by the Word of God!

DON’T OVERDRAW YOUR FAITH ACCOUNT

Dear Partners and Friends,

You are built to receive from the Lord. As a born-again believer, you are built with all the spiritual equipment needed to receive His answers, His provision, His wisdom, and His promises. Just like a television set is built to receive the television signal and a radio is built to tune in to the radio waves, you are built to receive from the Lord. For many the problem is they don’t know how to use their equipment.

Your spiritual equipment functions with spiritual forces or energy. For example, faith does not work from the head. In order for a person to receive by faith, they must deposit faith in the heart and believe from the heart that they receive. If that person attempts to receive based on facts they know in their head without a faith deposit in the heart, they are going to struggle. Faith is of the heart. Romans 10:10 informs us, “For with the heart man believes…” Faith doesn’t function in the head.

It is possible for Christians to be deceived into thinking that the head knowledge they possess is all they need to receive the promises of God. It is not true. The spiritual equipment for receiving works in the spirit- the heart.

Don’t confuse head knowledge with a renewed mind. Every believer needs a renewed mind. A renewed mind is having your thought processes governed by God’s Word in your born-again spirit. A renewed mind does not permit thoughts that are contrary to the Word of God. Our spiritual weapons work to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. (II Corinthians 10:5)

On the other hand, head knowledge is a knowing that a promise is in the Bible. It is mental assent that the Bible says God will supply our needs or heal our bodies. The mental assent has no power to receive. Faith is not released by mental assent. This may seem like something minor until you really need to receive from God.

The fact that the information is in the head does not indicate there is a deposit of spiritual substance-faith in the heart. Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1) Just like you deposit money in your bank account and then swipe your debit card and write checks on your account, you place a demand on the deposit of faith every day.

For example, you may know that healing is provided for you as part of the redemption in Jesus Christ. You may know the Bible says, “By whose (Jesus’) stripes ye were healed.” If sickness comes to attack your body, you pull out your debit card and try to swipe it. But because you have not deposited any scriptures on healing for months, nor have you listened to any preaching about healing, you don’t have a supply of faith stored up about receiving healing. Healing is yours! But it is transmitted into your body by faith.

As the cook in my home, I have the responsibility to provide well-rounded meals. I plan ahead to have fruits and vegetables in my house because I want my family to eat the nutrition that will supply the vitamins and minerals they need. Every believer has the responsibility to eat a healthy spiritual diet. That means you can’t just pull out the sermon that makes you shout all and never listen to anything else. I think every believer should have study notes, books or sermon series on the following subjects and consistently feed on them: Our Position in Christ, the Power in Blood of Jesus, The Power in Jesus’ Name, healing, protection from danger and Walking in Love. This is not an exhaustive list but it covers the subjects that you might not hear all of the time.

MAKE SPECIFIC FAITH DEPOSITS

Do you reconcile your bank account on a consistent basis? Many people don’t. They just deposit and withdraw never knowing exactly how much is in the bank. They swipe and then check the balance. If a deposit is missed or a charge goes through twice, the problem isn’t discovered until the overdrawn notices start or the card is denied. Keep a spiritual perception on your faith levels. Be responsible to know if your are nearing “empty” on your level of faith in the love God has for you. If you are facing unusual adversities in your life, you should be setting aside time to make specific faith deposits. Purposefully plant seeds of faith for things you need in your life.

Plant the Word of God about your marriage into your heart. Plant the Word about your financial provision. Deposit the promises about the salvation of your children. Make specific deposits in advance!

The Bible advises us in Proverbs 6:6 to “Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways and be wise: which having no guide overseer or ruler, provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.” The wisdom of the ant is demonstrated in the deposits, the gathering of provision. We have spiritual harvest and provision! The provision is in the Word of God. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God.Let’s store in our hearts the substance of faith so that we are always ready to receive from the Lord and quench every fiery dart of the enemy.

Focus Your Faith

Hope and dread are magnetic forces. Hope acts like a magnet in the spiritual realm to draw the promises of God. Dread acts like a spiritual magnet to draw the things you fear. Realize that Hebrews 11:1 works for faith and fear. Faith is the substance of things hoped for and fear is the substance of the things you dread.

Our society is inundated with fear words and fear thoughts until people are desensitized to fear. If it snows, the weather reports are filled with phrases like, “The roads will be treacherous.” Women are afraid to walk through the dark parking lot because they have watched so many television shows about rape and murder. Spouses don’t trust their husband or wife because of the leaving and cheating songs they have been listening to on their favorite radio station. People are feeding on fear!

As believers, we should have a different diet. We should be feeding on faith. Faith is the victory that overcomes the world! We are more than conquerors through him that loved us! Thanks be unto God which gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ and always causes us to triumph in Christ! How can we fear if we feed on these truths? The things you meditate on the longest will become the strongest in our lives. Focus on faith. Focus on victory. See yourself win. Imagine that need met and mentally image a full supply. See a picture of yourself with health in your body.

There was a time in my life when the dread was so prevalent in my life I couldn’t see a hope-filled image of my life. I expected things to get worse and things grew worse. I knew the promises of God. But they were not working for me. Having a head-knowledge of the promise does not activate the promise. I had to take the word and place it in my heart. I had to give attention to the Word more than I gave attention to the situation I was facing. I had to use the supernatural substance of God’s Word to build an image of victory, supply and provision.

Focus Your Faith
You are responsible for your focus. You are responsible to take the Word and build an image of God’s truth in your life. If you are standing in faith for the salvation of a child or grandchild, what do you see when you pray for them? In my prayer devotional, Intervention Prayers, I discuss the fact that we have to pray from a position of faith. See your child carrying their Bible into church, lifting their hands in worship to God and singing praises to His name. Don’t sit in your prayer closet crying to God with an image of your child putting a needle in their arm, or crashing their car or handcuffed in the back of a police car. Shut that image of destruction out of your mind and take God at His Word. Apply the blood of Jesus Christ and declare that child is free from destruction!

This is deeper than just stopping the dread thoughts. We can’t score on the defensive. We can’t gain ground spiritually if we are only focused on stopping the negative. Push into the direction of spiritual strength. In other words, don’t just stop the thoughts of loss. Practice the thoughts of supply. Don’t just stop the thoughts of losing your ministry. Imagine yourself laying hands on sick people and they jump up healed! See the anointing flowing through your life in a greater measure.

This is what I encourage you to do: 1) Take authority over your thoughts and the information you receive on a daily basis. II Corinthians 10:5 “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”

2) Purposefully choose to think on verses that build the image of what God has promised. Philippians 4:8 says we are to think on these things-things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and of good report. Think supernaturally. Think outside your human limitations. Colossians 3:1 tells us to “Seek those things which are above where Christ sits on the right hand of God.”

3) Make decisions about your present situation and future success based on your position in Christ Jesus. Don’t make “victim decisions” based on how your situation makes you feel. Ephesians 2:6 indicates God has raised us up together with Christ and made us sit together in heavenly places (of authority) in Christ Jesus. Make decisions like a man or woman in authority. Take your cues from the Holy Spirit. Let the Lord teach you how to operate the authority you have in Christ Jesus. You are not helpless! You are not a victim to the situation! You are equipped with supernatural abilities and weapons for victory!
4) Stir yourself with praise and rejoicing. This will keep your spiritual supply at overflow level. (Ephesians 6:18b-19) Be filled with the Spirit; speaking to yourself in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; giving thanks always…(Jude 20) But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.

Get your hopes up! Refuse to dread and make a special point to feed on truth that will lift your hopes to a heavenly position. Set your affection on things above!

I am asking you to join me in prayer for the following specific requests:
1) II Thessalonians 3:1 Finally brethren, pray for us that the Word of the Lord may have free course and be glorified even as it is with you.
2) Pray for the Faith Builders broadcast to increase as an instrument of salvation and strength to those who watch. Pray for lost, hurting people to be supernaturally led to turn on or find the broadcast. Pray for those people to be saved and set free from addiction.
3) Pray for the Hispanic outreach of this ministry to grow in effectiveness- that every one of my books would be translated into Spanish, that my knowledge and proficiency in the language would increase, and that the Lord increase favor to be received by the Hispanic community.

Strength to Conceive Your Miracle

I have made a quality decision for my future. I choose to refuse to doubt! On this road toward my destiny, the pitfall that has caused the greatest delay in my progress is doubt.

As a pastor and Bible teacher, I should have seen it coming. I should have had my faith shield firmly clutched in my grasp. Instead, I found my attention being diverted by the dilemma. It wasn’t a sudden circumstance that captured my focus. It was like a slow, gradual fade until the light of faith was gone and the shadow of despair was surrounding me.

Then, life seemed difficult. Life without faith is limited to sense knowledge, will power and toiling. I tried to make good decisions. I tried to be responsible. I discovered that being reasonable was pulling me farther away from my purpose.

God spoke to my heart in the midst of my toiling and struggle. He pointed out that in the New Testament the emphasis for the believer was not placed on struggle or toiling. The emphasis is on believing. I began to look at Jesus, my example. He never dealt with obstacles or situations with natural forces. He used His faith!

I returned to the verses that I started my journey with some twenty years ago. I pulled out Mark 11:23 and realized that doubt is a verb! Jesus said to have faith. Then, He said “Don’t doubt!”

I looked up the word “doubt” and discovered it means, to withdraw from, to oppose, to stagger, to separate. Just like Peter, who took his focus from the Word to the waves, I took my eyes from the promise to the problem! I withdrew from believing. I was separated from confidence. I staggered like the unstable believer described in the book of James.

When you stagger, you lose your footing. You lose your balance! You lose the ground that you have gained.

No more! Doubt is an action that I can avoid. You can avoid doubt, too. Make the choice today! No more doubt!

Strength to Conceive Your Miracle

The Bible says in Hebrews 11 that Sarah received “strength to conceive.” There was a time when Sarah didn’t have the strength or ability to conceive. As a matter of fact, she spent most of her life in this condition of inability. But, Sarah received what she didn’t have the capacity to do in herself when she considered God to be “faithful”.
What is it that you don’t have the strength to conceive? Maybe you don’t have the financial strength to pay all of your bills. Perhaps, you don’t have the physical strength to conceive your healing. You can receive what you don’t currently have when you meditate upon God and His faithfulness.
Focusing on God’s ability and His willingness to work in your life will cause you to perceive the situation differently. Just like David, who had a different outlook as Goliath made his threats, you can see every thing with the Lord God Almighty as the greatest factor of the equation. Consider Jesus, His blood that speaks for you, his Name that belongs to you and His Word that works in your favor!
